Who we are?
The South Ornithological Group (Gosur) was founded in late 1979 Seville with independent banders Spanish Ornithological Society (SEO BirdLife) and members of the Association Andalus.
Since then, Gosur main activity the Wild Bird Banding Scientist, an activity used as a tool not only for the study of birds but to other aspects such as environmental education, study populations, the Natural Environment and Urban, etc. ...
Gosur has from its inception to work with agencies in many projects in favor of birds and their habitats and actively collaborated in protecting the, now famous, Natural Area "Brazo del Este", or knowledge of large raptors nesting in the Sierra Norte de Sevilla.
As Gosur ringing group belongs to the Migratory Bird Center of the Spanish Society of Ornithology. With this organization since its inception Gosur involved in many campaigns both nationally and internationally, highlighting, among others:
- HIRUNDO Program: EUROPEAN level monitoring of the Barn Swallow (Hirundo rustica)
- PASER Program: Monitoring species breeding in the country
- Biometry Program.
- Etc. ..
Throughout its history Gosur carried out most of its activities in the provinces of Seville, Huelva and Cadiz, but has also campaigned in other provinces in the center and south of the Iberian Peninsula, as Toledo, Ciudad Real and Caceres.
From its inception Gosur has banded more than 90,000 birds. With these data, and contribute significantly to the knowledge of the Spanish Avifauna have seen light 4 publications:
- Bird Banding I (1989)
- Bird Banding II (2000)
- Bird Guide Alamillo Park.
- Ornithological Yearbook of the Province of Seville (2005-2008).
Other major campaigns that currently takes place Gosur are:
- Monitoring and ringing in the "Parque del Alamillo Ornithological Station" (In this place Gosur has established the first station Constant Effort Andalucía).
- Follow the White Wagtails roost (Motacilla alba) in Seville.
- Avifauna Monitoring the Natural Arm East.
- Tracking birds in other parts of the provinces of Seville, Cadiz and Toledo.
